Phoenix Designs commissioned me to redesign the website for Growing Technologies which is a part of the Tildenet group. The current website is not built to web standards and as such is not optimised for search. As well as this, it does not have any e-commerce capabilities. Tildenet wanted to redesign Growing Technologies as an e-commerce solution, but also needed for the look and feel to be given a refresh.
My approach to the redesign of Growing Technologies started, as with much of my work, with a focus on useability. I wanted to give visitors to the website an intuative and stress-free retail journey. This was hopefully achieved by presenting the visitor with a number of ways to get to the information they are looking for – a simple product navigation, featured products and recently viewed products.
I wanted to maintain a clean and elegant style to the redesign. I used a restricted colour palette, relying on the two key colours of green and black, with red used as a accent and to highlight the current focus on the page. The shopping basket was positioned in the top corner of the layout and in order to save space is designed to be hidden off-screen until required. In order to separate the sidebar from the main content area it was decided that instead of using a solid line of change of colour, a subtle shadow was used to hint towards the separation.
